Facebook Business Page

A Facebook Business Page is now as crucial as being in the Yellow Pages was in the 90’s.

Facebook is the largest social media network and is the ideal platform to connect with your customer base. Now with over 2 BILLION monthly users, if your business isn’t using Facebook, I can only suggest that you start today.

 

Below are the basics to help you get your business started on Facebook.

If you want to communicate to your organisation, clients or selected sample group of key people away from the general public; you can always create a Facebook Group.
If you are wanting to create a public place to share product information, organisational updates and for the potential and loyal customers to find, follow and engage with; a Facebook Business Page is what is needed.

How To Create a Business Page

First, if you don’t have one already, you will need to set-up a personal account.

From your personal account, you will want to create a ‘Page’. There is more than one way to do this, but the easiest way is to go to the drop-down button found on the top right.

Select Create Page
Facebook will provide you 6 themes to help you set up your page. Choose which will best represent your business, keeping in mind that each will have slightly different options moving forward.

  • Local Business or Place
  • Company, Organisation or Institution
  • Brand or Product
  • Artist, Brand or Public Figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or Community

If you choose Local Business or Place you will be asked for a Name, Category, Street Address, City, Zip Code, Phone before agreeing to the Facebook Page Terms.
For the other categories, you will only need to choose a category and a name.

Profile Picture 


A profile picture is necessary, as this which will show up next to posts and comments from your Page. A
 logo will work well here or an image that best represents your brand.
Image size should be square, at a minimum size of 180×180 pixels.

Cover Photo

Cover photos help you express your Page’s identity. A picture of your team or the organisation’s HQ works well here. Alternatively, use an image that compliments or is associated with your brand. Examples of your product lineup, products in use or your services.

Your image/video will be cropped to fit, ideal dimensions are 828×315 pixels (minimum 399×150), or a minimum 20-second video.

Short Description

Create a short description of the products, services or cause that this page is representing. Add location, website and phone number if you haven’t already.

Username

Create a custom username that is easy to remember. Your username should match the name of your page as much as possible as it will appear in a web address for your page…

Call To Action

Add a Button to the top of your Page to make it easy for people to take specific actions. Have your followers message, email, call or click through to your website or app.

Guidelines 

Set out guidelines for sharing and publishing posts. This will create structure when engaging, to keep a clear representation of your brand.

Posting

Posts that are short, visual and created for the right audience tend to get more likes, comments, and shares. Post at least once a week. This ensures that you look like you are in business and are actively engaging with the public. Always have an image that compliments the post. Sharing other publications that compliment your brand or you want to be associated with, always makes a good post on your page.

A short video is a great way to introduce yourself, your team, your products or store. Whether you capture it on a smartphone or publish something more polished, a video post helps capture attention and engage people.

 

Engagement


Invite friends and associates to like and follow the page. When people like your Page or Page posts, their friends may discover you, too.
Boost posts. This will have posts appear on friends and friends of followers newsfeeds. Share your @facebookname on your website, in an email signature, on business cards and the shop front window.
Respond to any engagement in a positive way, if it is negative feedback then respond in a problem-solving manner.
DON’T POST Controversial values or beliefs that may divide your followers.
Avoid posting unrelated content (eg. pointless funny cat videos).
Stay positive. Never post negative points of view if it is unavoidable unless you can add in a positive solution.
Eg. Plastic is destroying our oceans, so we are changing our packaging.
